Mark your 2014 calendar for August 2, 9 and 16. Those three Saturdays from 7:00 in the morning until 1:00 in the afternoon are when Summer Streets, the ultimate New York City street fair, is happening. Covering almost 7 miles, this way cool free event goes from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park as well as along Park Avenue and a wealth of streets that are totally interconnected. There will be no cars allowed so make sure your walking shoes are handy or bring out your 10-speed bike. Once you arrive, you can take advantage of a wealth of entertainment options that will be available along the way. You can expect to see performances by everyone from NY Laughs, Robert Andersen Band and Art of Stepping to Acapella Soul, Cupcake Lady Productions and Yung-Li Dance Company. Based on such popular international gatherings as the Plage in Paris, France and Ciclovia in BogotÃ¡, Colombia, Summer Streets also features a myriad of activities for folks of all interests and ages. Challenge yourself at the Course of Emotions, a 9-hole mini-golf course thatâ€™s incredibly interactive. Instead of physical obstacles, each hole features an emotional one like fear or anger. (You may want to have your therapist caddy for you.) Stay in shape via the New York City Department of Parks and Recreationâ€™s Shape-Up Program. Youâ€™ll have your choice of a variety of fitness and yoga classes all day long.
